hazbin hotel s1 live watch archive
i honestly have no idea how to explain what i think of this show... this is a largely positive liveblog if you scroll through, but i wouldn't consider myself a fan of hazbin hotel. i was pleasantly surprised by the songs, and the animation is clean, but i think the writing is only marginally better than the pilot or viv's other show, even putting aside how incompatible the show's humor is with my own.
however, i am not above characters designed specifically for weird teen girls on the internet, and owe a lot of my interest in this show to fans who made interesting, well-thought-out transformative work about them (or just pretty, sexy fanart of vox). i also think it's cute how enthusiastic the cast is about the show—i think they did really well, and their ability to voice act does a lot of heavy lifting in some scenes. i'm super impressed they got this cast at all LOL
ultimately, i did end up watching the show all the way through and memorizing some of the songs so i can't call myself THAT much of a hater! it was okay. i love christian borle. the loser baby sequence was very nice. please give your characters to a creator who respects them.

i watched the first episode with my sister so no livetweeting for that but some thoughts
- i'm unsurprisingly lukewarm on how the angels act, but having that one viv-typical edgy angel turn out to be adam makes a bit more sense
- you wouldn't have guessed any of that from his design though, but i'm nitpicking
- the music is still good, love erika henningsen
- soooomething about the commercial and alastor's general vibes made me squint but now i can't remember, so i'll go back to it later

kinda sad that these episode 3 songs go hard but the characters are less relevant so there was not an attempt to animate it equally as hard...
also i bet it's hard for stephanie beatriz to balance her vaggie voice + singing voice. she's excellent at both, but i Was wondering when they cast her how vaggie would sound with a higher singing voice and idk how to feel about it

for the past few years i've been indifferent to any angel ships but i think i can hop on the huskerdust train after this... so cute...

it's kind of regrettable that the female characters are the mains but i have no interest in either of them and find them quite tropey… i know that people won't let that stop their obsession with even blander male characters and i should examine my biases but man! i just wish they were more interesting/better written!

ok i'm done! i think already i can tell their writing team benefited a LOT from having a studio step in, although i also did enjoy the first five episodes of helluva boss, so maybe they always just start off fine...

i'm kind of impressed that despite lucifer looking passably as young as charlie, they were able to give him the appropriate dad energy (exhibit A: this shot)

ok i finished. kind of a lot for eight episodes but i do love a good ending musical number :) the omakes of pentious and lilith are cute and intriguing, and i want to know what alastor's whole deal is. i like that the Vs are kind of... team rocket-ish... sillies.....
